Rumsfeld Tells Press to "Back Off"
Thu Oct 26, 2006 at 11:34:32 AM PDT
CNN is reporting that our testy SOD said something like this to the press:
"Back Off Boogaloo"
I saw the tail end of Rummy's rant and he was definitely on the defensive about something he was asked. I think it was about the "timetable" issue.

Georgia teen forced to drink turpentine to induce abortion
Tue Sep 26, 2006 at 10:17:18 AM PDT
In another high profile incident of parents trying to force their teenage daughters to have an abortion, some relatives of a 16-year old pregnant teen in South Georgia were arrested last Friday after they forced her to drink turpentine to induce an abortion.
This incident falls on the heels of a case in Maine just 1 week ago whereby a young pregnant teen's parents alledgedly tied and bound her to take her to New York City for an abortion against her will.
For those of us who work in the abortion clinics, this type of behavior is not surprising. You see, if parents can veto a minor child's abortion as legislated in many states, then it stands to reason that they can also force their pregnant daughters to get abortions.
GA-Gov Perdue (R) gets suspicious $100,000 tax break
Thu Sep 14, 2006 at 08:41:14 AM PDT
The Georgia Blogs are all a twitter over Republican Governor Sonny Perdue's verbal admission on WAOK talk radio yesterday. This caller "Brian" must have read Mike Stark's blog. You see, Sonny quipped in response to "Brian's" questioning that in order to get a $100,000 tax break on a land sale that all Brian had to do was "Get Elected Governor". Wow. Really?

Pre-Election Rules on Congressional FRANKING being broken??
Thu Aug 17, 2006 at 12:55:32 PM PDT
Yesterday I got in the mail a fancy 4-color, tri-fold, card-stock, oversized mailing from my Congressman
Tom Price (R-GA). This is the second such piece I've gotten from him in the past week or so.
It's entitled "Mid-Year Congressional Update. Keeping You Informed" and contains purty stock photos of purty people and very spiffy graphics and very little text. In fact, the cool looking family on the front could be interpreted to be Tom and his family. But here's the catch printed in small type:
PUBLIC DOCUMENT
OFFICIAL BUSINESS
This mailing was prepared, published and mailed at taxpayer expense.
It is provided as a service to the 6th Congressional District constituents.

Jackson MS Bids Good Riddance to Anti-Abortion Thugs

Operation Save America's 8-Day "Siege" on Jackson Women's Health Organization, the last remaining abortion clinic in Mississippi, came to a tedious conclusion today with a resounding "thud".
The clinic's patients came in early and were discharged by about 8:30 am CT. Apparently Flip "the Flipper" Benham is not a morning person and couldn't make it by the clinic early on a Saturday morning to harass patients, but he did stop by later in the morning to bid farewell to clinic security consultant McCoy Faulkner. A ragtag group of about 10 protesters also loitered around the clinic with little impact.

As of Thursday, July 20th, the anti-abortion wingnut group Operation Save America headed by looney-tunes Flip "the Flipper" Benham, has pretty much managed to offend anyone and everyone in Jackson Mississippi.
Pro-choicers
Gays
The Constitution
The Supreme Court
Churches
Schools
Medical Centers
The Police Department
Hospitals
The Press - Clarion-Ledger
...in other words, anyone within earshot.
Norma McCorvey ("Roe" in Roe v. Wade) lit the ceremonial match at an Evangelical church to burn a Koran, a gay flag, copies of Supreme Court decisions they don't like, and BURN THEIR BRIDGES.

Days 2-3: Anti-abortion Wingnuts in Jackson Mississippi Irrelevant
Day 1: Anti-Abortion Attempt to Close Down Jackson Mississippi Abortion Clinic
"Hateful", why "hateful"? Because the alledged anti-abortion protests in Jackson MS planned for this week have turned into hateful diatribes against churches (Unitarian & Episcopal), the police, and it seems anything that's not white Evangelical Christian.
Flip (the "Flipper" Benham and Operation Save America have been wandering around Jackson with an unfocused hate for everyone. Not only have they picketed the clinic, but they have also terrorized a pro-choice rally, the State Capitol, businesses along State Street, 2 churches, and anyone who doesn't look like them. Their hate is spread far and wide.

Today was the first day of Flip "Flipper" Benham's Operation Save America's attempt to close down the Jackson Women's Health Organization, the last remaining abortion clinic in Mississippi.
For the past several months, the anti-abortion wingnuts have been gearing up to stage a "massive" protest at the clinic with the express purpose of harassing, intimidating, and using street theater to halt operations in the clinic and eventually close it down.
State of the Enemy: Privacy & Americans
Sun May 28, 2006 at 08:52:50 AM PDT
While watching
Enemy of the State last night, the brilliant and eerily prophetic movie starring Will Smith and Gene Hackman, I came to the conclusion that maybe this country finally gets it.
Gets it that the NSA and the enemies of privacy have actually realized their goal...to invade everyone's homes and bedrooms and lives. And I don't think this country is going to take it any more.
For ABC to play this 1998 movie in prime time on a night where there is only reruns going on says a lot. It says that this issue should be front and center every night. If you have a friend who thinks that they have nothing to hide and warrantless spying is OK in the name of national security, spend $19.99 and buy them this CD. Don't tell them it has a political purpose, just tell them it's another Will Smith action flick that you wanted them to see.
Attn. Sean Penn: Don't film your next movie in South Dakota
Thu Mar 02, 2006 at 03:03:38 PM PDT
Sean Penn is contemplating shooting part of his next movie in South Dakota, the state that recently banned abortion, thus possibly setting up a Supreme Court review of Roe v. Wade.

(Mar. 1) -- When Sean Penn, an Academy Award-winning actor turned director, stopped by Carthage to scout it for the set of a movie adaptation of Jon Krakauer's nonfiction book "Into the Wild," it caused quite a stir in the small town.
"I think he just found the book and decided to check it out," said Carthage Mayor Kathy Faber.
Five Catholic Justices - See How They Rule (w/POLL)
Sun Jan 22, 2006 at 12:03:59 PM PDT
Finally, someone of national prominence has dared to question the danger of having 5 Catholics on the Supreme Court if Alito is confirmed. This is not an anti-Catholic sentiment, but would be the same if it were potentially a majority of 5 of any religion including Jewish, Methodist (my childhood religion), Muslim, etc.

Supreme Court Abortion Cases: The Real Story
Wed Nov 30, 2005 at 10:54:06 AM PDT
Today, the Supremes heard two abortion related cases:
- Now v. Scheidler
- Ayotte v. Planned Parenthood of Northern New England
I'll go into more detail about these cases below the fold, but make no mistake about it. With all the hoopla, etc., the bottom line is that the anti-abortionists want is NO abortions. They use these issues as smokescreens to cover up their real agenda which is unmistakably to outlaw all abortions, no matter what. And their posturing now about "parental rights", "freedom of speech", etc is all BS. The antis intend to chip chip chip away at abortion rights until there are none. Then, birth control. Then, maybe sex. Then, whatever. Let's all chew on this here.
What women seeking abortion in the Gulf need to know
Fri Sep 02, 2005 at 02:27:28 PM PDT
Women seeking abortion services in the Gulf are scrambling to get the services. Clinics in that area are closed and clinics in neighboring areas are working hard to help out. In the wake of the reports of rapes in the NOLA area, I realized that women would be desperate for abortion care and information.
All of these states have 24 hour waiting periods. Waiting periods imposed by the Bushies. This will further put a strain on women seeking abortion services, as they will have to be delayed yet again.
Below the fold is a rundown of the status of abortion services in the Hurricane area and the agencies that concerned citizens can contribute to.

A Letter of Support from Elizabeth Edwards to Cindy Sheehan
Tue Aug 16, 2005 at 12:02:05 PM PDT
I just got the following E-Mail from Elizabeth Edwards. It brought new tears to my eyes. Edwards for President, Elizabeth that is.
Dear Friend,
Casey Sheehan was born May 29, 1979, the first born child of Cindy and Pat Sheehan. It was a long labor. Fifty-one days after Casey was born, our first child, Wade was born, also after a long labor. They started school the same year, played the same games, watched the same television shows, loved the same country. On April 4, 1996, three weeks after going to Washington as a winner in a national contest about what America meant to him, Wade died in an automobile accident. On April 4, 2004, eight years later to the day, Casey, who loved his country enough to wear its uniform, died in Iraq. Cindy and Pat's hearts broke, as had ours.
